Pharmacogenetic Testing Q & A

What is GeneSight® pharmacogenetic testing?

During your visit to Interventional Psychiatry Group for pharmacogenetic testing, your provider will collect a DNA sample by swabbing the inside of your cheek, which is then sent to the GeneSight® lab for analysis.

Within two days, GeneSight® will send your results back to our clinic, detailing how your genes may affect medication outcomes. For example, the results may reveal which medications require dose adjustments, are less likely to be effective, or have an increased risk for side effects – all based on your DNA.

Pharmacogenetic testing does not replace the clinical judgment and reasoning that is required to make a safe and effective treatment plan, but it is a helpful tool to aid in a customized treatment planning process.
